Brandeis Hall set for remodel in 2018

Creighton University’s Department of Student Life recently partnered with Sodexo to plan renovations for Brandeis Hall that will begin during spring break of 2018.

These renovations will include increased seating as well as multiple new dining stations, giving students more options and an inside look to what’s going on behind the scenes. The new stations include a Bistro where students can enjoy fresh Italian food made to order with homemade pasta, pizza made in a hearthstone oven and a bakery where people can get baked goods fresh out of the oven.

One of the changes happening to Brandeis Hall’s dining area is the addition of the Simple Servings station. At this station, people with any food allergies and intolerances can get meals made to order in a centralized area, without worries of cross contamination.

Vegan and vegetarian options will also be more available and customizable. The station will provide students with food ready to eat as well as the ability to customize their meal.

β€œStudents love choices,” said Lucas Novotny, Director of Housing and Auxiliary Services for Creighton University. β€œWe want to provide as many choices to students as we can, whether that’s choice per station or the made to order. The ability for a student to walk up and be able to customize their order is really exciting.”

Resident dining director chef Tasos Kyprianos is excited to provide a more β€œfood forward” concept at Creighton’s dining halls. Sodexo decided to make the new additions open concept so that students can see their food being made, and therefore feel confident in the freshness of what they’re eating.

β€œYou’re going to see in this renovation a lot more of an action food forward type of concept, so there’s going to be more action and food being put together in front of students and made to order than there ever has been before,” said Michael Fleming, Sodexo’s resident district manager at Creighton.

According to Fleming, Brandeis Hall currently seats 389 people at a time and will seat 600 people once the renovations are complete. The first meal served in the newly renovated Brandeis Hall will be Aug. 19, 2018.

In addition to the renovations to the dining portion of Brandeis Hall, multiple offices are being moved to the building, including the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center, the Creighton Intercultural Center and the Lieben Center for Women.
