The Creighton Students Union passed a new piece of legislation during the annual State of the Student Address on Tuesday, – CSUβs Comprehensive Diversity and Inclusion Statement.Β
CSU President Connor Campbell presented the statement to a crowd of students in front of the Skutt Fireplace and he held a vote involving all who attended the address.Β
The motion to incorporate the statement under Article II of the CSU constitution passed 75-0.Β
In his address, Campbell spoke about how diversity was a primary focus of the CSU executive team during his presidency.
One excerpt of the statement reads, βThe Creighton Students Union condemns hate speech and discrimination in any capacity and is devoted to promoting the dignity of all people.βΒ
College of Arts and Sciences freshman Alex Tenuta, was one of the many students who attended the address.Β He said that everyone seemed to be in favor of passing the statement.Β
βConnor did a good job of communicating the changes that he wanted to make,β said Tenuta.
Campbell also announced the new CSU president and vice president, Patrick Marta and Maddie Tagaloa.Β
Marta and Tagaloa plan on continuing Campbellβs strong emphasis of diversity on Creightonβs Campus.Β
βWe want to promote exchange of cultures and experiences,β said Marta. βWeβre trying to improve diversity.βΒ
Marta said that his and Campbellβs plans for Creighton are not that different.Β
βConnor and Vice President Dhruti did a lot of great things for the school,β said Marta. βI want to continue that going forward.β
Campbell additionally discussed much of what the CSU executive team accomplished during the last year.Β
Campbell specifically praised the CSU program board for holding Two Minute Talks, which were a collection of presentations promoting awareness of the LGBTQ community.Β
Campbell ended his address by expressing his excitement about the future of CSU and Creighton. βIt has truly been an honor to serve as your CSU president,β said Campbell. βThank you so much
