Students asked, so they listened: Creighton Universityβs Reinert-Alumni Memorial and Health Sciences libraries recently implemented a new system where students can go online and reserve a study room for up to two hours at a time.Β
David Buffington, Evening Supervisor and Technology Specialist at the Reinert-Alumni Memorial Library, said that the staff did thorough research before getting this room reservation program up and running.Β
βAfter researching if any of the other Jesuit University libraries reserved their study rooms, finding that 70 percent had room reservations, and seeing that we had access to the same services that those libraries used, the Library decided to implement this service,β said Buffington.Β
Reserving a room is a simple process. Students, staff, and faculty can go online to either libraryβs website, select the room they wish to reserve, the desired date and time, and then their Creighton credentials. They can also use Snapchat to scan the QR code on the instructions of each study room door, allowing students to reserve rooms from the convenience of their smart phones and tablets.Β
MacKenzie Twaddell, a first-year student in Creightonβs Occupational Therapy School, is happy about this new system and said that it will be most helpful for coordinating study groups.Β
βAs a professional student, weβre constantly meeting for group projects,β Twaddell said. βBeing able to see which study rooms are available ahead of time makes coordinating with students so much easier,β Twaddell.Β
This new system helps both graduate and undergraduate students alike, as individuals and groups in every school need a guaranteed study space. Alyssa Finger, a College of Arts and Sciences Junior, said that because she lives off campus, having the ability to reserve a study space in the library would be extremely convenient, especially during midterms and finals weeks.Β
Rooms can be reserved up to two weeks ahead time, and for anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours. This service was put in place in both the Reinert-Alumni Memorial Library and Creightonβs Health Sciences Library.
