Things to do on Valentine’s Day

Feb. 14 is almost upon us and many people, whether in a relationship or not, are making plans to celebrate the day of love. College of Arts and Sciences senior Nina Noronha is planning a Galentine’s day program for her residents on the third floor of Kiewit Hall called β€œChanning Tatum Tots!”

β€œValentine’s Day is not only for couples,” said Noronha. β€œIt’s a day to celebrate the many friendships that have been built, and I figured there was no better way to celebrate than with friends and tater tots!”

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Creighton’s Violence Intervention and Prevention Center is hosting an event to stand up against victim blaming called β€œWhat Were You Wearing?” The event will respond to our culture’s most pervasive rape culture myths. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesday. There will also be a reception held on Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m.

There are also plenty of things to do off Creighton’s campus. The Blackstone District recently hosted β€œHello Blackstone: Galentine’s Edition,” where women from all over Omaha celebrated a night out with their friends to enjoying shopping, hair blowouts, raffles and other activities held throughout the Blackstone District.Β

Nebraska Brewing Company is also celebrating the romantic atmosphere with some dinner specials. Enjoy roasted beet ravioli, miso marinated halibut, or pepper crusted ribeye with vanilla bean fathead fondue for dessert.Β

Not hungry? Head over to the Holland Performing Arts Center this Valentine’s Day at 7 p.m. and see YAMATO, the Drummers of Japan. YAMATO celebrates the ancient art of Japanese taiko drumming. According to the Holland Center’s website, β€œIn a spectacular display of physical strength, performers leap from drum to drum to create exhilarating music.”

Celebrate Valentine’s Day this year by exploring Omaha’s coolest restaurants and events with your friends and loved ones or check out the awesome events that Creighton’s different campus organizations are hosting.Β
