Following its 1-2 skid in the season opening series against Northeastern, Creighton baseball has faced four other teams, leaving the Jays with a winning record heading into their next stretch of games.Β
In their series against UC Davis, the team completed a three-game sweep with two three run wins and a finish in extra innings. Junior Michael Emodi was a leader in the first game with three RBIs and was one of four players with two hits. In the second game, sophomore Jason Allbery was a top performer with two RBIs and two runs.Β
The series was capped off with a strong late-game performance from Emodi. Despite putting up consistent runs in the first four innings, the Jays had failed to maintain their lead, allowing a run in the bottom of each of the last two innings. Each team was held scoreless in the tenth before Emodi hit a two-run double to lift the Jays on top. The team finished with a 10-7 victory over the Aggies.Β
In continuation of their road stretch, the team faced Central Arkansas, where the Jays were unable to carry the momentum from the first game. The Jays came out strong in the first matchup, driving in nine runs in the final two innings. The game was well balanced for the Bluejays, with three players delivering two hits each, and junior Clark Brinkman performing with three hits. Following the matchup, the team dropped the next two games to fall in the series with a 2-1 decision.
To finish its time in Arkansas, Creighton faced Arkansas-Pine Bluff and delivered a 10-6 victory. The momentum started early with four runs in the first inning, and the field players defended well to keep Pine Bluff scoreless going into the fifth. Junior Jack Strunc was the key hitter of the game with three hits and two RBIs to lift the team over the Golden Lions.Β
In their first game of the series against Minnesota, the Bluejays opened with a three-run lead in the first inning. The momentum continued with strong fielding, allowing only one run in the first seven innings. The energy came late in the second game, as the team had to build from behind to deliver its second straight 7-3 victory. This time, the team followed the bats of Brinkman andΒ sophomore Will Robertsonβeach with three hits. Despite early victories, the team fell short in the third game, falling 15-1 to close the series.
Creighton had a dominant performance Tuesday night, beating Kansas State 13-3 inΒ Manhattan, Kansas. Emodi and Robertson combined for seven hits, including two home runs, six runs scored and 10 RBIs.
The team will enter its next stretch of games with an 9-5 record. The Jaysβ first home game is March 16 at TD Ameritrade Park with a three-game series against Wichita State followed by a single game against South Dakota State.
