Crescendas bring the treble

This past week, the Creighton Crescendas held their annual spring concert. The Crescendas are the allfemaleΒ acapella group on Creighton’s campus, and they perform a variety of songs, ranging from pop music to country.Β

Β

The concert featured many talented singers and popular songs that many audience members knew the words to. The concert opened with β€œBlack Horse and the Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall, with solos by juniors AvaniΒ Khaparde and Eva Gilbreath. This song blended the vocals of altos and sopranos while maintaining the classic rock feel of the popular 2004 song.Β Β

Β

The next song was β€œHoneymoon Avenue” by Ariana Grande, which is a five-minute-long song full of stunning harmonies. The song was led by soloist andΒ freshman Rachel Herr, followed by the second soloist, senior andΒ Crescendas president Eliza Brindley.Β Β

Β

β€œidontwannabeyouanymore” by Billie EilishΒ followed, with solos from freshman Hallie Luther and senior Anna Buck. This popular song from 2017 was sung in four-part harmony, highlighting the soloists on the chorus and the ensemble on the verses.Β Β

Afterwards, the group performed β€œSmooth Criminal,” originally performed by Michael Jackson but in the arrangement performed by the Glee cast. Soloists Kate Ellis and Gabi Camara performed the song battlestyle,Β sparring with their respective vocal parts. The song highlighted the two soloists’ vocals, in addition to showing how well the group can harmonize with no background music.Β

The final song was β€œSuper Trouper β€œby ABBA, sung by the entire group. This song highlighted the friendship and camaraderie of the Crescendas.Β

When asked about the concert, freshman Hallie Luther said, β€œThis was the fastest we’ve ever had to arrange a concert, and overall, I think it went really well.” Many audience members would’ve had no idea the concert was pulled together so quickly because the songs were all performed so flawlessly.Β Β
