Tame Impala released his fifth studio album βDeadbeatβ last month. The album combines some of Tame Impalaβs classic alternative/electronic sound with some new explorations into different musical genres.
Tame Impala writes, records and produces his music almost solely by himself, if that is any indication of how his music sounds. It is extremely unique, and no song sounds exactly the same, but any listener can tell the uniqueness and excellence that Tame Impala puts out into his musical projects.
The album led off with the singles βDracula,β βLoserβ and βEnd of Summer.β βDracula,β and βLoser,β lean more towards Tame Impalaβs previous sounds from his popular songs, like those of his albums βCurrentsβ and βThe Slow Rush.β The Single βEnd of Summerβ leans more electronic, if that is something listeners are inclined to. βDraculaβ gives listeners a spookier vibe β perfect for the fall season or enjoyers of βThrillerβ by Michael Jackson.
The album begins with βMy Old Ways,β which is also nostalgic of past Tame Impala albums. Similarly, βObsolete,β and βAfterthoughtβ are also reminiscent of Tame Impalaβs past, with new perspectives and different sounds. Tame Impala seems to have mastered curating his own personal sound β and catering to that β while always creating something new.
βSee you on Monday (Youβre Lost),β βPiece of Heavenβ and βNo Replyβ are the slower songs on the album, but still elude the classic electronic/musical sound that Tame Impala incorporates into his music.
For the electric-dance-pop enjoyers, βOblivion,β βNot My Worldβ and βEthereal Connectionβ are the songs for you. They are reminiscent of beats that one might experience in the House Music genre and are good for any hyping-up you might need.
As for the lyricism in the album, Tame Impalaβs words are raw, honest and are almost relatable for any listener. The actual music paired with the lyrics really gets the listener to feel something, so I encourage listeners to take the song as a whole β not just the beat or the lyrics. Tame Impala speaks through the sound sonically just as much as he speaks through his actual singing on the album.
Overall, Tame Impalaβs βDeadbeatβ is an extremely unique album that I encourage anyone to give a listen to. There is a large variety and blend of genres, and the production and composition that goes into each song is what makes this album unique.
