The Creighton womenβs tennis team had a tough outing as they lost two matches last weekend, falling 5-2 to both Marquette on Friday and DePaul on Saturday.
In Saturdayβs defeat to the Blue Demon, Creighton junior Kate Krueger was able to earn a singles victory over Depaulβs Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Creighton freshman Valerie Negin defeated Depaulβs Marija Jovicic in singles.
DePaul won the other four singles matches handily while also sweeping the doubles matches, securing the victory over the Jays.
On Friday, the day right before their DePaul match, the Bluejays fell in another Big East match by the same score of 5-2, this one being in Milwaukee against the Marquette Golden Eagles.
Creighton did have a bit of success in singles as Valerie Negin defeated Marquetteβs Emilija Kojcic and Creighton senior Sarah Wilcox defeated Marquettesβs Giulia Turconi.
However, the Bluejays again lost the other four singles matches and they did not pick up a win in doubles.
βIt was a tough loss for the women today,β head coach Tom Lilly said. βWe just let a few chances get away in doubles and singles and that was the difference in those matches. Solid wins by Valerie and Sarah but we just didnβt have enough against a strong Marquette team today.β
Despite the two tough losses, Creighton still holds a solid 9-6 record and will be back in action on Friday at home against Midland.
