LIVE ACTION UPDATES: No. 15 Creighton vs Nebraska

The 2023 annual rivalry game with Nebraska’s two battling programs takes place in the Husker’s arena. The Bluejays hold a 6-1 record coming into the matchup, their sole loss coming in the Kansas City Classic finals against unranked Colorado State. The Huskers remain undefeated 7-0 leading into the contest. Creighton leads the series matchup 29-27 in the history of the two stories programs, although in the 2022-23 season, the BLuejays feel to their rival Huskers. The stage is set for an intense matchup between the two Nebraska teams as they battle for supremacy in the state.

First Half-

-Creighton working well of the glass and keeping Nebraska scoreless for two minutes,

-Score 5-4 after a steal by Nebraska for an early layup with 17 minutes left in the first half

-At the timeout with 15:54 left, Creighton is only 12% from field goal range, going 1-5 from three-point range

– Nebraska takes the lead for the first time 6-5 after two made Nebraska free throws

-With 15.5 minutes in the half, Nebraska increasing the tempo on Creighton, seeming to make them lose focus on the offensive.

-Creighton subs out three starters with 14 minutes left to replace with Francisco Farabello, Isaac Traudt and Frederick King

-Scheierman hits another three-pointer to give the Bluejays a 20-16 lead with over 11 minutes to go, his third three-pointer on the afternoon.

-A three play Nebraska series created a tie with the Bluejays rivals, as Tominaga hit a three and an errant pass from Trey Alexander game the Huskers an opportunity to make an easy layup. With a free throw, the Huskers lead 21-20 with less than 10 minutes left.

– A timeout with 7:56 left in the half brings with it a 27-23 lead for the Bluejays. The Bluejays have increased their field goal percentage to 41%, but still only have made 5-15 three-pointers. The Huskers are step-in-step with the Bluejays, with 4-% made field goals, but have made 0-6 three-pointers.

-Scheierman hits two back-to-back three pointers with 6:40 left in the half, giving him 17 points so far in the game.

-Creighton starting to get hot on shooting, with Ashworth and Farabello each making a three-pointer consecutively to give the Bluejays a 39-32 lead over the Huskers with less than 4 minutes in the half.

-At the half, Creighton leads 50-37, going 47% from field goal range and 8-9 in free throws. The Bluejays have already scored 10 three pointers on the night, coming from Farabello, Ashworth, and by large majority, Baylor Scheierman. The Huskers are shooting 38% from field goal range.

Second Half

– Scheierman takes the ball to the hoop with the first points of the second half with 18:40 left. The Blujays take a 54-37 lead.

– Ashworth with a three-pointer from far beyond the arch with over 16 minutes left in the half to give Creighton a 60-41 lead.

– With 14:19 remaining, the Bluejays have been unable to get Trey Alexander involved offensively, as he has tallied only 6 points. However, he holds the team leading five assists in the game.

– At 11:57. the Bluejays hold a 67-48 lead over the Huskers. Just before the timeout, Creighton let another pass get away from them, as a pass from Alexander to Scheierman was fumbled by Scheierman and out of bounds for Nebraska ball.Β 

-With 11:01 left, the Bluejays have made 1 of their last 7 field-goal attempts, and the Huskers have been held scoreless for over 2:30 minutes.

– Trey Alexander gets his first three-pointer of the night with just over 8 minutes left to play. Alexander increases the Bluejays’ dominant lead to 74-50.

-With 7:31 left in the game, the Bluejays have gone on a 7-0 run over the last 1:49. The rival Huskers sit at 33% for field goal percentage and 2-19 in three-point shots. The Bluejays, on the other hand, have a 45% field goal percentage with 14 made three-pointers.Β
