After pulling an impressive 7-0 win against Evansville, Creighton Universityβs softball team is getting ready for their rematch against the Drake University Bulldogs.
In their previous game against Evansville, the Jays managed to score seven runs in the first inning and they are planning to take that offensive edge to their next game against Drake. Freshman utility Allie Mathewson says that the team has been really good in their hitting and they definitely need a lot of runs.
The Jays played against Drake before in a doubleheader last week at Des Moines. In the first game, the Jays scored a 5-2 victory, but suffered a 0-2 loss in the second game. Despite the loss, the Jays are looking to make some improvements for their rematch.
βWhen you play a team one week prior and then you play them a week later, you have a little first hand information,β head coach Brent Vigness said. βWeβll have to look at the scouting report and make some adjustments from what we saw last time when we played Drake, but I think it comes down to cleaning up defensively and then continuing to be aggressive on the plate.”
Thereβs also added pressure for the Jays to win since the game will be hosted on their own turf. With their record in home games 8-3, the Jays are more determined than ever to ensure that they continue dominating in their home field advantage.
βWe need to win especially until we win the series and we keep our good record at home,β sophomore out fielder Blair Lowe said. βWe have a winning record this season at our home field and we need to keep that going.β
βWeβre going to come ready to go since itβs at home,β Mathewson said. βWeβre going to keep the mind set that we donβt want to lose at home and go into the game mentally prepared for that.β
The Jays return to the CU Sports Complex to host their game against Drake. The game starts on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
