Sometimes the library is the perfect place to study. Itβs relatively quiet and comfortable. Sometimes, though, this campus staple can become a deadly place.
The person at the desk next to you can have a runny nose, open a bag of chips or take a phone call. The absence of A/C can turn the entire library into a sauna. The only open spots might be in the basement, where the air is stale and itβs too quiet. What Iβm trying to say is that there are times when the library just isnβt the right place to study.
One could try to study on the mall or scope out a new spot in Harper, but I personally prefer to book it off campus.
A coffee shop is the perfect off-campus study destination. The smell of coffee alone can make a person smarter (thatβs not scientifically supported at all, itβs just my theory).
Starbucks at 15th and Douglas is awesome, but it has a couple crucial problems: limited seating and that fact that itβs only open until 7 p.m.
During midterm week, my friend and I went to Starbucks at about 6 p.m., ready to zone in for a few hours, only to discover it was closing soon.
We werenβt deterred though, because I had recently heard about Caffeine Dreams, a coffee shop on 45th and Farnam. We decided to check it out.
Turns out itβs one of the most hipster places Iβve ever been. The baristas had the super trendy haircuts and tattoos, and the drink selection
was awesome.
Itβs a great environment to study in, with a ton of perfect-sized, but weird, tables and chill music playing. The best part: itβs open until 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Sundays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Itβs more of a drive from campusβabout 10 minutesβbut itβs definitely worth it.
So if youβre tired of the library, canβt stand the heat in there and want to get off campus to study sometime after 7 p.m., consider checking out Caffeine Dreams.
