On Saturday, Deglman held their annual ball. The theme this year was under the waves. It was a semi-formal event held in Deglman Residence Hall. The event was put together by Deglmanβs hall council and featured music from BlueJay radio.
βThe dance went really well,β said Michaela Tallman, residence director for Deglman. βWe had over 200 people coming in and out throughout the night.β
The event is something that is put on each year by the residence hall and is meant for all students.
βWe saw a lot of traffic from freshman residence halls, but upper classmen were there as well,β Tallman said.
βI would go again,β Arts & Sciences freshman Lauren Brendel said.
One of the reasons that the dance was a hit was due to the fact they stuck to tradition.
βGenerally we stuck to tradition, although it is my first year here,” Tallman said. “I heard that in the past it was more black and white tie affair.”
Tallman relied on what was done in the past to help organize the event. The only difference, besides making it a little less formal, was the change in themes. The consistencies from year to year helps students know what they can expect and often brings them back even after their freshman year.
βIt was pretty much what I expected it to be like,β Brendel said.
The event featured dancing with music by the BlueJay radio and much dancing by all the students and even Tallman at times.
βI really enjoyed watching all the students dance,β Tallman said. βMy favorite part is when I had to step outside to take care of something quick. The music was not very loud, but I could hear the girls singing ‘Call Me Maybe’ from outside the building. I even got in and danced for a bit.β
Dancing was not the only part students enjoyed, as a dessert bar was featured as well.
βMy favorite part was the dessert bar and the decorations,β Brendel said.
Decorations were due in thanks to all the members of the Deglman Hall Council who worked on putting it together. They spent a good deal of Saturday working on setting it up and then taking it all down that night.
βI really want to say thanks to everyone who came out. Kudos to the Deglman Hall council and everyone who stuck around to help until one in the morning. Thanks as well to our hall government and student integrity for helping put the event together.
It took many people to put it all together and awhile of planning to put it all together. In the end the final judge of how it went was the students who went and continue to go year after year. If you missed out this year, do not worry there is always next year .
