New music heard in March

American Authors’ Oh, What a Life

Release: March 3

iTunes reviews gave it five stars

Thoughts: This is definitely my favorite album released within the last month. All the songs are unique and catchy and I find it hard to pick a favorite, although you might know the group from their popular song β€œBest Day of My Life.” Other favorites of mine from the album are β€œLuck” and β€œBeliever.” Also, if you haven’t heard through the grapevine, American Authors are playing at Creighton for free on April 24.

β€œThe album has a lot of diversity so you have a lot of different influences and genres that have been incorporated,” Nursing sophomore Elisabeth Dupont said. β€œAnd I would say I can’t wait to see them at Spring Fling.”

Pharrell Williams’ G I R L

Release: March 3

iTunes reviews gave it four stars

Thoughts: Known currently for his infectious hit β€œHappy” from the movie β€œDespicable Me 2,” Williams infuses the rest of his album with the same upbeat exuberance and jazz. The album features duets with both Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys, giving it an β€œold-school appeal,” according to Arts & Sciences sophomore Scott Prewitt.

Aloe Blacc’s The Man

Release: March 11

iTunes reviews gave it five stars

Thoughts: I really like the soulful sound of Blacc’s voice,as well as the mix of acoustic, jazzy and electronic elements throughout the album. My favorite on the album is the acoustic version of the popular β€œWake Me Up,” in which the electronic beats are replaced with violins and acoustic guitar. While you probably know Blacc for his current hit β€œThe Man,” the rest of the album is definitely worth a listen.
