The Creighton menβs basketball team has officially started its season this November. The menβs team plays at CenturyLink Center Omaha in front of various fans, including the student body.Β
The students of Creighton University receive free tickets to each home game. The student section is located behind the basketball hoop as they have the opportunity to cheer for their school. Β
Some students enjoy attending Creighton games because they get to show school spirit in the student section.Β
βMy favorite part about going to Creighton basketball games is watching it with my friends in the student section,β Arts and Science student Brendan Gernes said. βIt is a lot more fun to watch basketball with your friends.βΒ
Some people believe that the student section is a way for the individuals to get rowdy together and support their school.Β
βThe best part of the student section is the sense of community we have at the game,β senior biology major Alex Higgins said. βWe are united by each basketball game.βΒ
He also said that it is a great way to take a break from school and enjoy the student life at Creighton University.
Some students also enjoy watching people they know do the halftime challenges. Anthony Marchio, Arts & Sciences junior, says that he witnesses his friends participating in shootouts from time to time. He loves cheering them on and hopes that they win the prize.Β
Another thing that some students enjoy is the pep band. Higgins loves the music, especially during halftime. He explains that the music pumps him up for each home game.Β
The student section may provide a sense of community during games, but some students said they believe that it lacks consistency. Gernes said that there are games where the section is full. Yet, he also said that there are games where hardly anyone shows up. He thinks that the weekday games lack a student body section because a lot of students have other things going on.Β
Another thing that some students mentioned was the energy level at some of the basketball games. Louis Lipari, second-year Creighton Pharmacy student, believes that there are various games where the section is almost silent and does not get rowdy enough.Β
Lipari also said that students should celebrate each win at home by storming the court, which almost never happens. He explains how other schools β particularly state schools β storm the court a lot after home wins.Β
Some students said they enjoy watching Creighton basketball games because they get to support their school with other students. Some students said they were excited about the opportunity to get rowdy for their Bluejays.
