Students attend Creighton’s annual Major/Minor Exploration Fair

Creighton students had the opportunity to explore the university’s 50 majors and 60 minors at the annual Major/Minor Exploration Fair Thursday.

The event took place in the Skutt Student Center Ballroom and has been coordinated by the John P. Fahey Career Center for the past two years. Prior to that, other campus departments had coordinated it.

β€œIn addition to logistics like room reservations, table assignments, publicity, etcetera, we also coordinate faculty and staff from over 40 different departments on campus so that we can expose students to all the great options at Creighton,” said Rachel Gibson, the assistant director of the John P. Fahey Career Center. β€œWe hope students take advantage of the opportunity to talk to faculty and students from the many unique and interesting programs offered at Creighton.”

While some students are required to go to the Major/Minor Exploration Fair depending on their school and class standing, it is a resource for all students who are deciding what to study or wanting to add another major or minor to their schedule.

β€œComing to Creighton, I planned on being a biology major on a pre-med track,” said Arts & Sciences freshman Clair Emerson. β€œI found my other new major, exercise science.”

Arts & Sciences sophomore Bri’el Kashiwamura is a biochemistry major who is considering an environmental science minor.

β€œDuring my freshman year, the fair felt overwhelming and sort of a chore due to Ratio Studiorum Program requirements,” said Kashiwamura. β€œAlso there were so many people and tables there, you feel like you could miss out on an opportunity. While I thought coming to the fair that it would just reaffirm my thoughts on biology, I enjoyed exploring other majors.

β€œI recommend all students, especially freshman, to go check the fair out,” she added. β€œMaybe you will discover something new that you really want to do and can study during your time at Creighton.”
