“Disney’s Little Mermaid” plays at the Orpheum Theater

Β  Β The Creighton Student Leadership and Involvement Center helped students see the Orpheum Theater’s production of the β€œDisney’s Little Mermaid” from Nov. 7-12 at 7 p.m.

Β  Β The Student Leadership and Involvement Center’s mission statement for its students is to “intentionally create learning opportunities that teach and challenge students to develop, understand, and reflect upon their values, leadership skills, and goals.”

Β  Β The musical was written with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken. Some of the other music that was included in the musical are songs from the Disney film, such as β€œUnder the Sea,” β€œKiss the Girl,” and β€œPart of your World.” Disney’s The Little Mermaid was produced by Pittsburgh CLO and Kansas City Starlight.

Β  Β β€œThe musical was outstanding,” said Emily Forristal, an Heider College of Business student. β€œThe special effects were amazing and the music brought back all my childhood Disney dreams. It’s great that Creighton provides opportunities for students to attend events like that for free

Β  Β β€œThe Little Mermaid was my second show at the Orpheum with the Student Leadership and Involvement Center, and I hope they continue to provide them.”

Β  Β The Student Leadership and Involvement Center organizes events, like The Little Mermaid, free of charge for CU students. For events such as this one, students are required to put down a deposit, but once they show up for the event, their money is returned. Β

Β  Β β€œThe CSU Program Board obtains their funds through the CSU overall budget, which comes from a portion of the student fee,” said Emily Newcomb, VP of programming. β€œStudents are allowed to sign up as long as tickets are still available, and it is free because their student fee has paid for it already.”

Β  Β β€œI like that the Student Leadership and Involvement Center put on programs like this and take us to events around Omaha because it’s fun, easy to sign up and it’s free,” said Arts and Sciences student Anne Meyer.

Β  Β The main cast of the play consisted Diana Huey (Ariel), Eric Kunze (Prince Eric), Marco Ramos (Flounder), Melvin Abston (Sebastian), Steve Blanchard (King Triton) and Meredith Inglesby (Ursula).Β
