Jays drop first two conference games to MSU

The Creighton baseball team took a beating in Manhattan, Kan., giving up a grand-slam in the first inning in an 11-1 loss to Kansas State.

The loss caps a stretch in which the team won eight of 11 games but lost two to Missouri State, their first conference opponent.

After winning all four home games against Chicago State, the wins continued in two midweek games against Northern Colorado. The Jays won 5-4 and 8-5 thanks to four two-run home runs between the two games.

Last weekend, the Bluejays traveled to Missouri State for their first conference series. The Bears took the first two games, but the Jays avoided a sweep by winning the third.

The Jays then returned home to play South Dakota State on Tuesday. Creighton won in 11 innings after a walk-off home run by junior first baseman Darin Ruf.

The Jays hope to stay undefeated at home in conference action against Illinois State this weekend.
