Gamma Phi Beta sorority provided good eats while raising money for Campfire USA.
Sorority members sold tickets to their Wing Fling that ranged from $4 for children to $6 at the door. Sodexo provided three types of wings β plain, spicy and barbecue β while the women of Gamma Phi Beta made desserts and cut up celery and carrots.
“The food was really good. I had the barbecue wings, and they were great,” said Arts & Sciences sophomore Jeff Hamilton.
Wing Fling was held in the McGloin parking lot during the Creighton men’s baseball game on Sunday.
“Planning to have the Wing Fling during the baseball game was great because many families came. It was great to see the Omaha community supporting us,” said Beth Cavender, the philanthropy chair for Gamma Phi Beta.
The attendance this year was approximately the same as last year’s. About 300 people attended the event.
People enjoyed spending time with each other, from throwing Frisbees in the parking lot to chatting on the grass.
“It was a great way to spend time with one another and raise money for a great cause,” said Anne Staeheli, a sophomore and member of Gamma Phi Beta.
Over $1,700 was raised for Campfire USA, which is the national philanthropic organization that Gamma Phi Beta supports.
Campfire USA promotes leadership in underprivileged children. The women of Gamma Phi Beta also go to Jackson Elementary School twice a week and attend its after-school programs for lower income children.
