Stepping out of CU comfort zone into MÑlaga

I can’t believe that it’s already time to go. Although I knew I was going to be leaving for MÑlaga, Spain, come Sept. 25, the whole summer I seemed to be daydreaming of my semester abroad as if it were not a reality.

Now, with only 24 hours to spare, I am packing outlet adapters, exchanging U.S. dollars for Euros, and slowly removing ounces at a time from my luggage to make the 50-pound cut. I can suddenly hear the chimes inside my head telling me, “This is actually going to happen!”

It has been weird witnessing life at Creighton pass for everyone without me being there. Part of me wishes I could be stepping into a situation that comfortable.

Studying at the University of MÑlagÑ every day with 40,000 kids and living with an unknown family, whose first language is Spanish is anything but comforting.

However, after putting so much work into studying Spanish the past five years, I will get to use and improve my skills the entire time I am there. Although leaving all security behind gives me an uneasy feeling, I also know what a positive influence leaving my comfort zone will have on me.

Within the next 24 hours, I will be flying into Madrid and I will travel throughout Madrid and Toledo before heading down to MÑlaga to meet my host family.
