Obama: Where he stands

Iraq

Against war from the beginning, he currently has laid out a plan to move forward in Iraq. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of one to two brigades a month. That would remove them in 16 months, by the summer of 2010.

Economy

He wants to secure the economy and keep the middle class growing. He plans to increase investments and infrastructure, education and also modernize and simplify the tax code. Trade policies to benefit American workers and increase the export of American goods.

Immigration

Obama believes it has failed so far. He wants to increase the number of legal immigrants to secure jobs and keep families together. His plan: create a secure border, improve our immigration system, remove incentives to enter illegally, bring people out of the shadows (support a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens) and work with Mexico to promote economic development in Mexico to decrease illegal immigration.

Health Care

Obama believes every American has the right to health care. He plans to make health insurance work for people and businesses – not just insurance and drug companies and reduce costs and cave a typical American family up to $2,500 as reforms phase in.

Homeland Security

Obama feels that America is still unprepared for a terrorist attack. As a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, he supported legislation to strengthen chemical plant and drinking water security.
