If you hit .414 for a volleyball match, chances are you will win.
The Creighton women’s volleyball team was no exception last night as they did just that en route to dropping Drake in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-9.
Senior Amanda Cvejdlik had 15 kills for the Jays in 21 errorless swings. That was good for a .714 attack percentage, the highest in school history for a player with 15 or more kills.
In each of the three sets, the Jays went on runs that put the Bulldogs out of the match. In the first set, CU went on an 8-1 run to extend their lead to 19-7. Set number two saw they Jays score six of seven at one point to take another commanding lead, 17-9.
In the final set, the Jays played nearly perfect volleyball. The lead was as great as 17 before the Bulldogs rallied for a few points at the end of a match that lasted only 63 minutes.
Junior Jessica Houts added 13 kills and hit .462 while finishing with seven blocks for a third straight contest.
As a team, the Jays had 49 kills, four aces, 55 digs and 10 blocks while the Bulldogs had 27 kills, 41 digs and two blocks. Creighton’s hitting percentage of .414 was .331 higher than Drake’s .083.
This match should give the Jays some confidence going into a rivalry match up against the vaunted Huskers on Sunday. The match gets underway at 5pm at the Qwest Center and can be seen on statewide on NET or nationally on CBS College Sports. There will also be a free, live web cast on netnebraska.org/television.
