Head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth became the first in Creighton volleyball history to reach 100 wins on Friday night. The Jays beat Drake in Des Moines, Iowa, 3-1 with set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 25-18.
With the first set tied at 14, the Jays broke away and closed the deal on an ace by senior libero Bianca Rivera. Drake held on more tightly in the second set before Creighton once again broke away for the 25-20 win.
The Bluejays led the third set 24-22 before Drake battled back to take the next four points and the set. Creighton got behind in the fourth set 14-11 before winning nine of the next 10 points in the 25-18 win.
Senior outside/right side hitter Amanda Cvejdlik led the Jays with 15 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. Senior Korie Lebeda passed her own milestone by becoming the eighth player in Missouri Valley Conference history with 5,000 or more assists.
With the win, Creighton is now 12-8 overall and 9-3 in the MVC. Drake’s loss was its ninth straight.
The Jays return home to the Civic Auditorium to host Indiana State and Illinois State next weekend.
