Recently, with the election behind us, the debate on abortion has come up yet again.
Why, exactly, we are having this debate I’m unsure of, but I do have a few things to say about it.
First, those of us that are pro-choice are almost always not anti-life, be that as it may the “pro-lifers” on their high and mighty pedestals certainly want everyone to believe that to be the case. There are two problems with what staunch pro-lifers that I see. One, they are only pro-life when it comes to others β case in point, Sarah Palin: “We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents,” meaning Mrs. Palin gave Bristol the choice to have an abortion.
Second, the argument on the sanctity of life is total nonsense. I say that because shelters are having to close their doors, a group at Creighton to tutor inner city youth has had five participants in the last two months and almost none of the pro-life moment is protesting Darfur or other horrors. Had Darfur been given the same attention as the unborn, the crisis would be solved by now.
Why is it only unborn life that matters, life that we can argue whether or not is actually alive? No one can disagree that living people are alive.
