The seventh-seeded Bluejays defeated unseeded Connecticut 2-1 in overtime, advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Connecticut’s Tony Cascio scored the only goal for the Huskies in the 33rd minute off a lead pass from Akeem Priestly. That goal was half of the shots taken by the Huskies during the first half, as the Jays outshot the Huskies 11-2.
The Jays were able to score the equalizer in the 79th minute. Junior Chris Schuler headed the ball past Connecticut’s Josh Ford off a header from freshman Ethan Finlay. They Jays scored their second goal in the first overtime. Senior Seth Sinovic headed the ball to the back of the net off a free kick by senior Andrei Gotsmanov.
The Jays will take on second-seeded Maryland next Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Kickoff will be at noon.
