Dear Creighton Students,
I would like to start off this polite rant with an apology to all of the 100 students who show up at every game and cheer feverishly for their Bluejay basketball team!
To the rest of you, how can you not attend two (Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Sunday Feb. 1) important conference games, only a couple of weeks in to the new semester?
You have free tickets, a free or cheap shuttle bus and a great arena full of 15,000+ fans who want to help you cheer on your fellow students playing basketball for your school.
Now that almost all of our games are televised, it is embarrassing to see an empty student section behind the opposing team’s backboard in the second half of our important games at this point during our conference schedule.
On behalf of my fellow Jays fans, I hereby challenge you to round up your friends, your dorm or apartment floors, your clubs and your fraternity brothers or sorority sisters.
Get off your complacent hineys and actually leave your dwelling and get to the Qwest Center to cheer on your team.
I became a Jays fan when I attended Creighton and have passed on my passions to my children.
I have no explanation to give them as to how lame your support has been of your school’s basketball team this season.
Please fill up the “Phone Booth” for the remainder of the season and join us season-ticket holders and your fellow hard-core students in the Pep Band, Altman’s Army and the Overalls!
