The Creighton Men’s basketball team came out to a very slow start Saturday at home against the Missouri State Bears; however an impressive second half gave the Jays a comfortable victory by a score of 75-51.
Creighton won the game in part to a second half outburst where they outscored the bears 44-22. Creighton was led by the hot hand of sophomore Kenton Walker who had a career high 15 points on 7-10 from the floor and 1-1 from the free throw line. Walker’s counterpart Kenny Lawson also had an impressive game for the Jays although he only scored six points. Lawson led the team with eight rebounds and four blocks on the day.
The Jays were still bothered by injuries as sophormore guard P’Allen Stinnett was limited in his minutes due to his knee being drained earlier in the week. The Jays were also without senior Chad Millard who still appears to be a few weeks away from a return.
Creighton now sits in third place in the valley behind leaders Northern Iowa and Illinois State. Missouri State currently stands in ninth out of 10 teams. The Creighton men are in action again on Wednesday as they travel to Drake before playing conference leader Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls on Sunday.
