Romantic Movies

by Danae Mercer and Kara Hanson

Forget diamonds, home-cooked meals and useless frills. Nothing says ‘I love you’ (or I like you but I’m not ready to commit so let’s hang out in my dorm room) quite like a romantic movie.

So this Valentine’s Day, curl up with your sweaty or your group of close, but also single buds, and flick on one of these timeless classics. From serious to silly, gushy to maybe-guy-tolerable, here is a breakdown of three great romantic films.

“Love Actually”

Summary: Follows the storyline of several couples as they fall in, out and back in love. Shows how love knows no bounds.

For: A group of close friends or someone you’re entirely smitten with.

Caution: some nudity.

“Chocolat”

Summary: A woman opens a chocolate shop in a French town. She finds love and helps rekindle other relationships with her creations.

For: Anyone who likes chocolate and Johnny Depp.

“Gone with the Wind”

Summary: Set during the Civil War, two lovers struggle through life’s challenges.

For: That history buff, someone who likes really long films, your mom.
