Softball slips past South Dakota State

The Creighton softball team jumped out to a fast start in the Tulsa Select Festival. CU opened up the tournament with a close win against South Dakota State Friday morning pulling out a 4-3 victory. The Jays went down 3-1 after SDSU scored three straight runs in the fourth and fifth innings before stringing together a two-run bottom of the seventh to clinch the opening win. Senior catcher Laura Kratochvil hit the game-winning single allowing senior shortstop Bailey Dawson to score the winning run.

Kratochvil finished 3-for-4 from the plate with the winning single. Junior pitcher Tara Oltman came in with 2.2 innings of relief for the Jays allowing only one hit and struck out five. Oltman became the third Bluejay in Creighton history to have 60 or more career wins.

The win gives Creighton an overall record of 4-2 on the season.
