Women’s basketball victorious in Des Moines

The women’s basketball team has continued its win streak that is now up to seven games in a row. Saturday the Jays took down Drake in Des Moines 68-65.

In a game dominated by scoring streaks, the Jays staved off several Drake leads by seven or eight points. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-3 lead with Creighton only hitting one out of their first 10 attempts en route to shooting 28% from the floor in the first half. The Bulldogs again jumped out ahead with a 40-33 score coming in the first few minutes of the second half. CU then answered with a 17-4 scoring streak to claim a nine point lead with eight minutes left of regulation.

Sophomore guard Kelsey Woodard led the Jays in scoring with 16 points, while junior guard Chevelle Herring had 15 and went an astounding 10-10 from the free throw line. The team also furthered their defensive hot streak by adding a season-high total of 14 steals on the day.

The Creighton Bluejays will return to action when they face off against the Missouri State Bears at the Civic Center Omaha. Tipoff is set for 7:35 p.m.
