Father of sci-fi

Google is reminding us Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica fans out there to remember who we have to thank.

The homepage illustration today shows a UFO hovering over a farm town in honor of the birthday of H.G. Wells, the early 20th-century novelist who is known as one of the fathers of science fiction. Two of his most famous novels, The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine have been made into many adaptations, including the famous Orson Welles radio broadcast.

What would our pop culture be without aliens and time travel? Pretty boring, I’d guess. So happy birthday, Mr. Wells. May the force be with you and all that.
