Pi Beta Phi T.A.K.E.s Action

Pi Beta Phi brought T.A.K.E., a self-defense class for women, to campus last Saturday, Saptember 26, 2009.

T.A.K.E. stands for The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation and was started in 2004 by the Kemp family and the Johnson County Park and Recreation District and in cooperation with Blue Valley Recreation Commission and Leawood Park and Recreation, after she was murdered at the local pool. In 5 years, over 36,000 women have taken the class from middle school through a 90 year old grandmother.

“We take our safety for granted,” said junior Whitney Beller. Mr. Kemp started the class saying, “If we can save one life, just one, I don’t care how many of these classes we give, what it costs the Foundation, it will be worth it.”
