Junior forward Sam Schuett made her return from a medical redshirt season as the Bluejays sank 13 three-pointers Friday night, overcoming an 0-18 shooting stretch to beat the Red Wolves 77-54.
Creighton won the season opener after falling to Arkansas State 73-56 in last season’s opener in Jonesboro.
The Red Wolves held its lone lead of the game at 5-0 until Junior guard Kelsey Woodard drained the first of her six three-pointers at the 14:52 mark of the first half.
Woodard’s basket jumpstarted a 19-0 run that gave Creighton the lead for good.
Chevelle Herring drilled a shot from beyond the arc at the buzzer as the Bluejays took a 37-14 lead into halftime.
Creighton owned much of the second half with their lead never falling below 18 points.
Woodard led the team with 18 points with all of her points scored off of three-pointers. Junior center Kellie Nelson added 13 points and seven rebounds while Senior forward finished the game with 11 points.
Creighton outrebounded Arkansas State 53-36 and was 13-31 from downtown in the game.
Creighton hosts Davidson Sunday at 1:05 at the D.J. Sokol Arena.
