New CSU executives announced during Student Address

The State of the Student Address focused on the examination of the present and preparing for the future for the Creighton Students Union (CSU).

The results of the 2009 CSU elections were announced at the end of the address. The new executive team includes Dillon Miskimins, Arts & Sciences senior, president, Seth Rich, Arts & Sciences junior, vice president, and representatives from the College of Business and the Schools of Nursing and Arts & Sciences (full list below).

The address, held on Tuesday night at 9 o’clock in the Harper Center Ballroom, was presented by the current and outgoing CSU President Adam Hare, Arts & Sciences senior.

All Creighton students lived out the Jesuit mission over the past year by showing love and support for the family of Jonathan Colby, Arts & Sciences senior who died this summer in Opus Hall, and through supporting the entire Creighton community financially during the hard economic times, Hare said.

A main focus for the upcoming year is the proposed change from CSU’s current status as a non-profit corporation to becoming one entity with Creighton University, Hare said. Students will have the opportunity to vote on this change on December 3, 2009.

“I have plenty of work to do until my term is up,” Hare said of the work to be done on the proposed change in CSU’s corporation status.

Hare said he was extremely happy for the future executives of CSU because they have an issued based approach towards CSU.

Approximately 100 students attend the address. Doug McAcy, Arts & Sciences sophomore, said he attended the address because he had friends running for positions.

“It was a great opportunity to gain insight into how CSU runs,” McAcy said.

There were no surprises for the presidential winner and only nominee, Miskimins. He said he was excited to start his position, but was disappointed he did not have someone to run against.

“Having an opponent creates a lot of spark and awareness about CSU. Not having someone to run against was disappointing,” Miskimins said.

The current executive members will finish out their term at the end of the semester, and they will start the transition period to the new executive members now that the results have been announced.
