Budgets, transportation and the CORE curriculum were addressed at the College of Arts & Sciences sponsored fireside chat with Dean Robert Lueger on Nov. 19.
Lueger responded to concerns posted by members of the audience and Student Senate alongside Senate President Brian Carroll. They addressed grants, budgetary issues and curriculum concerns.
In the hour-long session in the Skutt Student Center, Lueger said that discussions concerning alterations to the core curriculum were underway.
Lueger said that the process is long and could take the college several years to reach a point where it affects the students.
The night’s theme was how the college has been dealing with budgetary challenges, an issue of particular concern to students and faculty alike.
Lueger drew attention to costs not necessarily included in the budget, such as transportation and parking. He mentioned in particular the trials associated with providing new faculty, a process he said as being slowed down, a repercussion of the recession.
The night concluded with Lueger offering insight into his day-to-day affairs, including his favorable take on his position, followed shortly thereafter with hot chocolate and cookies.
