Jays hold on against Braves

After leading the Bradley Braves by 11 points, the Jays went into the locker room at halftime winning by just two points. With P’Allen Stinnett suspended, freshman Josh Jones and Darryl Ashford received more minutes than usual. Ashford finished with 12 points while Jones provided a spark off the bench with 13 points.

After halftime, Bradley made small runs for the rest of the game, but Creighton never gave up the lead. Timely shooting and great team offense helped the Jays put an end to each run. With 2:58 remaining in the game, Chris Roberts’ free throw brought the Braves within one point of the lead, but a steal by Ethan Wragge and two free throws made by Kenny Lawson Jr. answered the call. Lawson led the Jays in scoring with 16 points, 10 of which took place in the second half.

Creighton kept Bradley from scoring after this point, sealing the “W.” The win gives the Jays sole possession of third place in the Missouri Valley Conference and a winning record for the first time in 2010. They will look to build on their recent winning ways when they play at Drake on Saturday.
