Having graduated from CU twice, the last time in the 1970s, I’d like to comment on the opinion that global warming is a “hyped up myth.”

I have been a member of many environmental groups since the 1970s and cannot remember any indication in the literature from that time claiming that there was a coming disaster based upon cooling. I taught science for many years and do not remember any such dire warning.

On the other hand this claim has long been part of the talk show and Fox News “news.”

I realize that opinion pieces do not have to have truth, but it would be nice if they were not just repetition of talking points from the right-wing propaganda machine.

Such a “liberal” source as the Department of Defense has placed Global Warming on its high priority list of problems that must be solved.

The claim that China is not feeling the weight of this change could have been easily checked. There are sources that speak to the rapidly increasing desert formation in that country along with other easily found problems acknowledged by the Chinese dealing with global warming.

Of course, it is easier to just repeat what others write without checking. Hope this was not another example of “Fair and Balanced” reporting.
