Jays fall to Braves in quarterfinals of MVC Tournament

Most college basketball fans will tell you it is tough to beat the same team three times in a season.

It gets even more difficult when you send the opposing team’s best player to the free throw line 19 times in a game. Bradley point guard Sam Maniscalco made a stellar 18 of 19 free throws to lead his team with 31 points.

The Jays led the game frequently throughout the first half, and briefly at points in the second half, however Bradley exploded in the second half to win by a lopsided 81 to 62 margin.

Kenny Lawson Jr. did all he could on his way to a double-double tallying 17 points and 11 rebounds. Justin Carter joined Lawson in the double-double part tallying 10 points and 13 rebounds, however both efforts did not measure up.

The loss ends any hope the Bluejays had of making the NCAA tournament. The Jays now must wait to see if they are invited to any post-season tournaments. Likely destinations include the College Basketball Invitational or the College Insider Tournament.

As for now the Bluejays must wait to see if they will play again this year, and in the event they do not Friday will make the last day Creighton seniors Cavel Witter, Chad Millard and Justin Carter wear a Creighton jersey.
