Twitter: To Tweet or Follow?

According to a recent article on CNNMoney.com, most users on Twitter seem to be following instead of tweeting. Out of the 50 million accounts, about 73% of them have tweeted a message less than 10 times total, according to a report done by the Web security company Barracuda Networks. So in essence, Twitter has been more of a news feed. According to the same report, about 21% of the account were considered “true users”, meaning they have at least 10 followers, follow at least 10 people, and have tweeted at least 10 times. Some suggest that this means a lot of Twitter users are using the site to follow their favorite celebrities or friends and family, but not in the same way that they might interact with others in sites such as Facebook. In recent months many celebrities have jumped on the Twitter train, which is what might explain the current statistics. The question now is how much Twitter’s popularity will continue to grow, and that if this will make more users want to tweet themselves. Have a great weekend!
