Women’s Soccer take a loss to Iowa State

The Creighton Bluejays, who were feeling good after a 5-0 win against Loyola Chicago last Sunday night, appeared ready to go on a gorgeous Friday night at Morrison Stadium.

Things seemed to open up well for the Jays, who took six of the first seven shots. The Cyclones remained aggressive though, attacking the Creighton defense. The Jays stayed strong catching the Cyclones offsides several times.

Things turned ugly in the 40th minute with a questionable call by the referee in the Creighton box, which led to a penalty kick for Iowa State. The Cyclones took advantage of their opportunity and put the ball into the left side of the net, making the score 1-0 at the half.

The Jays, however, were determined to tie the score. They came back in the second half with a few good crosses across the ISU box but couldn’t connect with a goal.

With the clock winding down, the Bluejays just couldn’t take advantage of their opportunities. A few penalty and corner kicks brought some gasps of hope for a tie, but the tie never came. With a final shot by Kayla Nsien going over the crossbar, the 1-0 loss was cemented.

Next on the Bluejays schedule are the Bison of North Dakota State. The game takes place on Sept. 7th at Morrison Stadium.
