Name the last time you saw a Japanese horror flick from the 70s. If you can’t you’re in luck.
This year the spooks don’t stop when October ends with Film Streams’ Halloween-themed Student Night on Monday.
Film Streams chose a Japanese Thriller, “HOUSE” directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi to headline their 2010 Halloween weekend.
Film Streams’ Executive Director Rachel Jacobson chose the film while at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this year.
“I’d heard about HOUSE because it had a really long run at the IFC Center in New York,” Jacobson said. “I thought it sounded super-cool: a long-lost Japanese horror flick from the 70s? So we had been considering it for a while.”
The film is somewhat indescribable in regards to traditional film plots, but deals with the strange actions of a Japanese girl after finding out her widowed father has started dating again.
Jacobson also mentions the “HOUSE”-themed free prizes when booking this Student Night.
“They said they’d send us a bunch of free schwag and that sealed the deal,” Jacobson said.
Prizes including DVDs and posters will also be available.
If you’re looking to keep the spooks going after October ends, bring your Creighton student ID to Film Streams Monday night for a free viewing. It may cause you to “possess” a new taste in film genre.
