Passport event promotes safe travel

With the school year soon coming to an end, Skutt Student Center hosted AAA Insurance on Thursday to supply students with the important information needed to travel safely this summer.

Students were encouraged to stop by the event and have their picture taken for their passports free of charge. Travel agents were also available to answer any questions regarding passport information or insurance adjustments needed while traveling.

A passport is a basic requirement of people who want to travel outside their own countries. It allows one to physically go to another country and is one’s primary source of identification when you travel.

A standard passport photo document entails two identical passport photographs taken within the last six months. The photographs must be two by two inches and must be front view, full face and taken in normal street attire with a plain white background.

Documentation of nationality is also needed, which can usually be confirmed by using a certified birth certificate or driver’s license.

All U.S. citizens, including children, are required to obtain passports in their own names for identification while traveling abroad and for re-entry into the United States.

With the summer months approaching many students and their families will be heading out of the country and will be in need of a passport. Those in need of a passport can apply for one at a passport agency or other facilities that offer the service.

Before planning any trip outside the United States, it is best to make sure all passport documents are current and legal. Although it may seem tedious, it is the task all must take to travel internationally and safely.
