Peer Education at Creighton hosted its annual fashion show on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Skutt Student Center Ballroom. PEAC has put on the fashion show since 2008. This yearβs theme was βAll you need is love.β
The fashion show is a yearly event PEAC hosts to promote a healthy body image and positive self-esteem in our peers. Fun facts and videos were presented as supporters cheer on models from the Creighton community.
βI think that PEAC’s fashion show is a great way to celebrate who we are inside and out,β Arts & Sciences senior Kelly McManus said. βBoth male and female students have recognized this and have offered to be models in the show. The fashion show does have educational segments, which makes it even more valuable.β
The first 50 people will get a free shirt. All Creighton students are able to participate in the show. Both males and females serve as models, and PEAC is hoping to have 20 students participate in the show.
The mission of PEAC is to educate Creighton students about issues and challenges they may face in college and how to handle each of these situations in the best way. PEAC strives to promote a healthy and positive lifestyle for all Creighton students. PEAC hopes to emphasize the idea that each individual is perfect just the way they are. At the fashion show, various Creighton students represented themselves while strutting down the runway, in the hopes of building a positive representation of how students should feel on a day to day basis.
A PEAC member came up with this yearβs theme of βAll you need is love,β and the purpose of the theme is to emphasize the idea that each individual is not in need of any changes or transformations. Each person is beautiful in their own skin, and he or she solely benefits from love in their life in order to be happy.
βI believe someone chooses to be a model in order to help themselves and those around them come to terms with the idea that each individual is beautiful in their own way,β Arts & Sciences junior and PEAC president Amrtia Shetty, said. βI believe the fashion show is able to reinforce these ideas with those who participate or attend because they choose to explore a perspective of themselves, which is sometimes overlooked.β
This year, models had the option of wearing apparel from GAP or dressing in their own wardrobe. Models that chose to wear GAP clothing chose his or her outfit at a local GAP store.
The event was completely free for all participants and those who chose to attend.
βPEAC strives to touch on many of the common struggles college students face, and body image is one of those major struggles,β McManus said. βThis program hopes to inspire students and to remind them that βAll you need is love.β
