With its bold décor and young atmosphere, it’s hard not to be enticed by Roja Mexican Grill.

Located in Omaha’s Old Market, Roja serves a variety of Tex-Mex style food with a twist. On their menu, you will find tacos, fajitas, soups, salads, combination platters and more.

“I’m a really picky eater, but I can still find food at Roja that I like,” Arts & Sciences senior Marybeth Carlough said. “It’s also really convenient that it’s located downtown not too far from campus.”

Bottomless chips and chunky salsa are served right when you sit at the table as an immediate appetizer. On the menu you can find the standard Tex-Mex foods, such as chicken quesadillas or taco salads, but Roja throws many original dishes in there to mix it up. These dishes range from a stacked seafood enchilada, made up of gulf shrimp, lump crab, jack cheese, an over easy egg, avocado, pumpkin seeds and chile verde, to a Mexican cactus salad.

Supplementing their regular menu, Roja also offers many vegetarian dishes such a veggie taco, which includes mashed black beans, corn meal fried avocado, pico de gallo, jack cheese and chile lime jicama. They have an entire menu for the gluten intolerant as well.

To fulfill a sweet tooth, Roja offers cookie dough chimichangas, sopapillas, fried ice cream and Kahlua chocolate cheesecake.

Not only does Roja have a reasonable price range for college kids, it also offers the oh-so-popular happy hour that students love. This runs from 4-6:30 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and they have an extra reverse happy hour on Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to midnight.

In addition, this hotspot has specials that consistently run throughout the week. These include Margarita Monday, which features $1.99 house margaritas all day long, and Fajita Frenzy Wednesdays when all fajitas are 25 percent off.

Being only minutes from campus, Roja is a great place for Creighton students to check out. With the nicest spring weather Omaha has seen in a while upon us, Roja’s outdoor patio creates the perfect spot for students to relax while enjoying some seriously delicious food.
