Late night breakfast offers fun start to finals

Finals week sucks. Every Creighton student knows it. Fortunately, there are things that make it suck a little bit less. On Monday the Department of Residence Life held their biannual β€œLate Night Breakfast” in the Brandeis and Becker dining halls from 10-11:30 p.m.

Not only are the dining halls open late especially for this occasion, but students are served by their very own resident advisors, assistant resident directors and resident directors. The event is a way to kick off finals week with lots of smiles.

Despite having to carve time out from her studying to serve the breakfast, Gallagher Hall assistant resident director, Sabrina Nelson, was excited to help out.

β€œI love serving,” Nelson said. “It is a really neat way to interact with people I don’t see on a regular basis.”

Donning rubber gloves, hairnets and the occasional apron, the residence life staff had a great time taking a break from their own duties to dance, sing, wipe down tables and dish out hash browns late at night.

β€œEveryone ends up laughing at some point, and who doesn’t like breakfast for fourth meal?” Nelson said.

The program is not unique to Creighton as it takes place at multiple schools in the region. Deglman Hall Resident Director Michaela Tallman is new to Residence Life at Creighton.

β€œThis is a fun way for staff and students to interact outside of the residence halls and to bring some excitement to finals week,” Tallman said.

Booths and tables packed with students and every hungry mouth was fed. Tallman’s first experience with the event went off without a hitch.

The event was described perfectly by Kenefick Hall assistant resident director an Arts & Sciences junior Melanie Stara.

β€œIt provides a fun study break for students to build community with each other and eat delicious food served to them by great people,” Stara said.

With the promise of another β€œLate Night Breakfast” at the end of next semester some students may find themselves dreading finals week a little bit less.
