Sam and Louie’s a step up from dining hall pizza

Sam and Louie’s is probably the most well-known pizza place on campus. It is a short walk from the campus; just cross Burt Street and you are there. It features pizza and pasta for those days when college students want to get away from the dinning halls, but cannot drive or do not want to waste the gas money.

The first thing one will notice upon walking into the place is the size. It is small, almost too small. The place is located right next to a college, which would make one think it would be able to fit lots of hungry students. This is not the case. If it is lunch time, then maybe there is a chance of a seat being open. Weekends or nights are a whole different story.

The worst is the time I walked in and there was a party going on. The dining area had no room for other people, so I was forced to sit with my friend at the three tables in the front. When a group has a fundraiser there or a busy weekend dinner, forget trying to find a seat. The place needs to be bigger so people can enjoy their meal without feeling squashed. The good news is that the atmosphere is a lot better for a small place.

The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The place has the old Chicago style. The televisions are usually playing some sports or news. If a Creighton game is going on, then the place is buzzing with excitement before the game and afterwards as well. The workers are friendly and helpful. It seems hard to ever find someone in a bad mood.

The pizza is pretty good. It’s not the best pizza in town, but much better then what one would find in the dining halls. The slices are nice and big. I usually order sausage and it never seems to disappoint me; it is always hot and smells amazing. The cheese melts and seems to fall right off the pizza. I have not had the pasta before, but a few of my friends have. They all seem to enjoy it and often there are no leftovers.

The good news is if you have a party of people, you can just order a whole pizza and it will still fill you up. For the underage students, Sam and Louie’s have pop to drink. I am a fan of being able to fill up my own glass, so having a pop machine right near the seating area is nice. They also offer different types of beer for the upperclassmen.

Sam and Louie’s is a great place to go with friends after a long week of school. The only issue is that there is no place to really sit, otherwise it’s an amazing spot so close to campus.
