Comedian, writer and filmmaker Paul Mecurio will be performing six shows at Omaha’s own Funny Bone this weekend.
As a graduate of another familiar Jesuit university, Mecurio found initial success putting his Georgetown law degree to work on Wall Street and later within the world of investment banking.
It was only after friend and fellow comedian Jay Leno convinced Mecurio to take up writing jokes for him that he quit his business professional lifestyle to write full-time for The Tonight Show.
Mecurio left his greatest imprint on the world of comedy in 1996 when he was selected to be a part of the original team of writers for Comedy Central’s newest show at the time, The Daily Show.
In 2001, His work on Comedy Central was honored with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing as well as a Peabody award for Excellence in Broadcasting.
Mecurio currently hosts his own regularly broadcasted, free podcast which is available for listening on iTunes. During the podcasts he “interviews A-list celebrities, major newsmakers and the world’s power brokers.”
When he is not recording new podcasts or on tour doing stand-up, Mecurio is constantly featured on everything from late night comedy shows to major primetime news networks, weighing in with his eccentric opinions and quick humor.
Mecurio will be performing stand-up at The Funny Bone at Village Point thursday through sunday. Tickets range from $16-18, must be 21 and over to attend.
