I continued my quest to find couples that met at Creighton and are now happily married and came across a set of newlyweds.Β Big thanks to Libby Vogt for the tip off to finding this weekβs couple.
In case you missed last weekβs issue, The Dating Scene is switching it up and instead of me giving you advice, weβre getting advice from married Creighton graduates.
Last week, I featured 2008 Creighton graduates Erin and John Kamp.Β This week, the lucky couple, Douglas and Karisa Malchow, are giving us their story and some insight. Β
Douglas and Karisa are 2012 Creighton graduates and their story goes back to freshman year.Β They met in Heidi Von Turshβs Spanish class in the Humanities Building and soon became friends. As Karisa said, he kind of snuck up on her.Β In August 2011, the couple
Β started dating. Β
On April 5, 2012, Douglas proposed.Β Douglas intended to propose on an abandoned trail, but Karisa became car sick.Β Douglas used his quick thinking and pretended he wanted to get a picture of the two of them at sunset, and put the camera on the bed of the pickup.Β Instead of simply taking a picture of them at sunset, he walked over to Karisa, knelt and asked if she would spend the rest of her life with him. Β
Karisa, a little stunned, said, βYes, a million times over.β A year-and-a-half-long engagement later, the couple wed on August 2, 2013 here in Omaha at St. Ceciliaβs Cathedral.Β As newly weds, I wish them congratulations and more congratulations are in order because the couple is expecting. Β
When I asked my favorite question, what advice do they have for us when it comes to relationships and love, both answers involved time.Β Douglasβs advice is to wait until the other person takes you seriously to make the right move.Β Karisaβs advice is to remember that people grow over four years and to watch out for your best friends, because they can sneak up on you β¦ in a good way. Β
A huge thank you to Douglas and Karisa for sharing their story and once again congratulations.Β Keep an eye out for next weekβs issue and the final part of the series.
2012 CU graduates, Douglas and Karisa Malchow, celebrate their wedding.
