On Oct. 31, 20 preschoolers from the Creighton James R. Russell Child Development Center participated in their annual Halloween parade.
The three and a half to five-year-olds donned in their Halloween costumes and marched from the Child Development to the Human Resource Center next door. There they trick-or-treated around the office and sang five Halloween songs for the staff.
Maria Crosley, a Human Resource specialist, says that she always looks forward to the annual parade.
βItβs a great tradition,β said Crosley. β[It is] fun to see the kids all decked out. They are so cute.β
The route of the parade took the children from Human Resources, down Burt Street and finally to the Harper Center. Seven daycare providers including adult staff members, student workers and student volunteers accompanied them. Once at the Harper Center, the children were given candy by staff members dressed in costume and once again sang their Halloween songs.
Taylor Novacek, a College of Arts and Sciences Sophomore, is a work-study student in the Child Development Center. She said she has had a fun year getting to know the oldest group of children the Child Development Center care for.
βThe kids are the best part,β says Novacek. βItβs so fun to get to know all of their personalities so well.β
The preschoolers were equally as excited to be in the Halloween parade.
Charlie, age 4, was dressed as Woody from βToy Story.β
βI match Miss Ella [a daycare teacher dressed as Jessie from the franchise]. But we arenβt friends, just partners.β
βI like dressing up the best,β said Elizabeth, age 4 when asked what was her favorite part of Halloween. βIβm a cat. Now me and my cat are twins but heβs black and Iβm yellow.β
Victor, age 4, was wary of the amount of candy he was receiving.
βCandy is bad, too much sugar! But you can have just a little bit and be okay.β
After trick-or-treating, the preschoolers walked back up to the Child Development Center to wait to be picked up by a parent who is a student, staff, or faculty member of Creighton.
The preschoolers ended their annual Halloween parade at the Harper Center. Β
