Peachwave disappoints

My frozen yogurt adventure continued this week at Peachwave near 120th and L in the L Street Plaza. Opened in 2012, Peachwave is fairly new to the Omaha frozen yogurt scene. This is the first place I am visiting for my fro-yo series that I haven’t been to before, which really allowed me to go into the experience with an open mind.

When I first walked into Peachwave, I was surprised at how much the dΓ©cor reminded me of Orange Leaf; the dominant colors were orange and lime green too. The place was pretty empty as well – only two customers were there, and even the employees seemed MIA.

When a worker finally came out from the back, she gave me some sample cups, and I began to try the different flavors. Peachwave clearly focuses on being healthy, which is a plus; all of the yogurt choices were either low-fat or non-fat. Like most fro-yo places, flavor ranged from sweet to fruity. I sampled cookie dough and chocolate flavors, as well as a few fruity ones, and though they weren’t terrible, they weren’t anything to rave about.

After settling on a small bowl of non-fat chocolate, I headed over to toppings. Hoping for a large selection of fresh fruit, I instead found a large selection of different kinds of boba (boba are small tapioca balls or β€œpearls”). From blueberry to watermelon, I was amazed at the selection (Peachwave also offers boba tea). Personally, I’m not a big boba fan, but I decided to give some strawberry ones a chance.

Next to the boba was a small display of what looked like not very fresh fruit; as far as fro-yo places go, this was the smallest display of fruit I have ever seen. I decided on some okay-looking strawberries and made my way to the sweeter toppings. They did have Snickers bars (woohoo!), but the rest weren’t anything special, either.

My total came to $3.25 at $.49 per ounce, which is fairly cheap compared to my Red Mango visit last week (then again, I got an extra-large bowl there). Shockingly, all of the spoons at the checkout weren’t just one color – you could choose from six different ones.

The overall taste of the yogurt mixed with my topping selections wasn’t awful, but it definitely wasn’t amazing. I can’t say I enjoyed the boba, either, but like I said, I’ve never been a fan of it to begin with. I expected it to taste better than it did. Next week, I’ll be trying out the new-and-improved TCBY, and hopefully it won’t disappoint me as much as Peachwave did this week.

Shymanski visited Peachwave for the first time this week. Although the yogurt choices were healthy, she was disappointed by the limited selection of toppings available.Β
