Students React to Superbowl

This year, a record breaking number tuned in to watch the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos go head to head in Super Bowl XLVIII.

112.2 million viewers were reported to have watched the Seahawks take victory over the Broncos, according to Hollywood Reporter. This makes Super Bowl XLVIII the most watched in history.

Many Creighton students joined in on the Super Bowl festivities by gathering friends and eating pizza, wings, and chips and dips while in front of the television. Many of these students were disappointed with not only the outcome of the game, but the commercials as well.

The Seahawks defeated the Broncos 43-8. Many students, like junior Yahaira Ruiz, were hoping for a Broncos victory.

β€œIt was a great game for Seattle.β€œ said Ruiz. β€œIt was an absolutely terrible game for Denver. From the very beginning it was like the Broncos didn’t even really show up.”

Ruiz was raised a Broncos fan. She explained the most disappointing moments of the Super Bowl for her.

β€œThe safety call seconds into the game was extremely disappointing because it set the momentum for the rest of the night. It was a sad loss,” she said.

But even those who are not Broncos fans during the regular season were upset with the loss. Junior Jack Shmitz explained that she has been a Minnesota Vikings fan her entire life, but she was rooting for the Broncos to take the victory this year.

β€œI was very disappointed with the outcome,” said Shmitz. β€œI really thought the Broncos were going to win, but it just wasn’t there for them from the beginning.”
